"The Garden Fairy" is set in Victorian England, in the Southeastern Coastal area . Six cousins spend as much time with their Grandparents during their summer vacations and the Christmas holidays as possible. The children are adventurous and clever, and spend their time exploring the vast area of their grandparents home and lands, and those around them. Innocent and curious, they believe in all sorts of Mythical Folk, such as fairies, dragons and unicorns. Their parents and grandparents encourage their curiosity and allow them to believe. They know that all too soon, the children will grow into adults and leave that wonderful world of childhood behind. Sir James Barrie, creator of “Peter Pan”, delighted the world when he introduced the boy who would never grow up. This story builds on the premise that there are certain beliefs that we should never, ever give up. One of them being an everlasting belief in that enchanted world of “make believe”. Sounds like an oxymoron to believe in make believe, but how else do we make sense out of this vast and magical universe in which we live. We can see stars in the sky, so we know they exist, and scientists have proven that planets similar to this planet, revolve around them. Can’t we imagine without “making believe” life exists on them, and that similar worlds to our own exist? How far of a stretch is it to believe that other magical worlds can exist right here in our own back gardens. Me, I’m taking the side of “they exist”. "The Garden Fairy" recreates a magical world of fairies, wonder and belief, that will exist as long as we can suspend our cynicism. If you believe in fairies, they exist! The children in "The Garden Fairy" are your children and grandchildren. While they may have different names, different character and physical looks and abilities, they share that wonderful sense of innocence and wonder. Read this story aloud to your children or grandchildren and watch their reactions as you describe how the children, who knew they were right, find a garden fairy, and attempt to save her life. How they defy their grandfather and work together on a plan to not only try to save the Garden Fairy and her family of fairies, but make this Christmas the most interesting and wonderful Christmas ever celebrated at Grandma and Grandpa’s. If you are lucky enough to have children who love to read, give them this story and start them on a journey that will allow them to make their own decisions on whether or not this world really exists. You may be surprised at what they tell you Available for purchase for $9.95 in paperback. Visit the author's website at: www.rmyork.com |
